A further area hns been taken Bp in the Grey Valloy, with a viow to mining operations. At a Bitting of the Warden's Court this morning, boforo Warden Moldrum, Charles Christopher Davis was granted a coal prospecting liccnso for one year, to bo issued' in the name of C. C. Davis, as trustee for the Grey Syndicate, Ltd., over an area of 171)0 acres on the Greyiriouth side of the Dobson Coal Company's leaso.
Mining Accident.' An accident occurred at the Wealth 'of Nation^. .mine by which Stephon ( Hocking'was, somowhat severely.injure,d. Ho was in charge of the'which at .the millhead, and by some-means got entangled in tiio machinery. Medical attention was at once obtained, and the sufferer was taken to the Reeftoh Hospital, whero.it was found that, in addition to a sovore bruising, he . had three riba broken.

Coom, of Cobdon, returned to • Christchurch* to-day, Mossra Coom and Brown were fellowpassengers oh tho ship Bannock Myle, which arrived in Lyttelton fifty years ago, and the visit of Mr Brown was mado in order to celebrate the anniversary.
The Itov. O. E.'Walkey arrived from Christchurch this afternoon. He was accompanied by Mrs Walkey and family, and will take charge o£ the Cobdon and Eunanga parish of tho Anglican Church.
~ Captain Buckley and Mr W, Harrington left for Canterbury by to'day'a express.
Mr R. McGowan, of the staff of Bruhn and Co., was presented,by his colleagues with a watch and set of military brushes last evening. The recipient left this morning for Christchurch, where he will in future reside.
