PRICE OF THRESHING.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PBESS." Sir, —At the annual provincial conference of the Farmers' Union, held on June 6th, I notice that the question of threshing charges was brought up, and there was mentioned that the price for threshing wheat should be 4Jd per bushel. Now I should like to know how they propose a threshing-mill owner is going to make a profit out of threshing if he is going to make a reduction of £4 a thousand bushels on a profit of a little over £5, which would leave him with a little over £1 for himself. It would be a fine thing for one of these clever men to buy a threshing-mill and see how he would get on. Also, farmers think the men who work on mills get too high wages. I should like to see some of the members of the Fai"mers' Union stand in the smoke and dust for twelve hours a day for about £5 a weeh. I think one week would satisfy them. There is a lot for some of these gentlemen to learn about the running of a threshing-mill.—Yours, 6 C- ' MILLOWNER. Juno- Bth.
