The Governor-General (the Earl of Athlone) and Princess Alice had an exciting hunting adventure in the Messina district of the Transvaal. The Governor-General wounded a wildebeest bull, which charged straight at the party. The Earl of Athlone an(|[ the only attendant present fired when the animal was 30 yards away, and fortunately killed it. % [The wildebeest (gnu) is of the antelope family, in size that of a large ass. It gallops with great speed, and is apt to be dangerous with its horns.]
