WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Waimairi Country Council met yesterday. Present—Or. J. Seymour (chairman), and Crs W. J. Walter, G. E. Curry, G. Shipley, W. I\ Spencer, C. 32. Cross, 11. Paterson, and R. W. Hawke. The electrician's report stated that 21 new consumers had been connected with the £y3:.!m during Miy. The new Hamilton street extension had' been poled, taking eleven 301t steel poles and one Soft ironbark. He had received complajnt3 from soveral storekeepers in respect to the high rate charged for shop lighting. In nearly every ca&e a storekeeper was re<juired to burn hi>3 lights all <lu-y Jong, especially during tiie winter months, and ho was charged 5d per unit, which was the ordinary .lighting late. .tie would suggest that where storeKeepers were rcquireu to burn during the tiny time that they be charged on a maximum demand ra-to or else a separate meter at 3d per unit. On two occasions during the last lortnight an unknown motor-car had run into a along road, breaking the p<>st an<l tho wires on each occasion. The report was adopted. The country clerk reported that the county fund had a credit baianco of £2169 12s 7d. The City Council wrote with reference to a conference to be held in the Council Chambers on July 10th to go. into the question of lighting Hagley Park roada. it was decided to request the City Council to extend the scope of the conference to includo the question of apportioning the cost of maintaining jJeana's avenue and" electrical reticulation of tho Park. It was decided to meet Mr G. Witty M" P to discuss with him tho proposed' W»i! makanri hydro-electricity (scheme on Friday at /.30 p.m., in tho Council Chambere. It was decided to pay the chairman an annual honorarium of £IOO, payable qUHterlj t m lieu 01 travelling* ©xgensea.
