FLEECING THE GOVERNMENT.
NOT LOOKED ON AS A CRIME. "Every landowner is out to get as much money as possible from the Government," declared the Minister of Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr) to a deputation at Wellington on Saturday. "So is everybody," replied the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M_P.), amidst laughter.
The Minister: It is not looked upon as a crime to get 50 per cent, more from the Government than from a private individual. I regret that there should be such a code of othics in tho community, and I hope that with our teaching of civics in the schools, Mr Wright, we shall raise another generation which will treat the Government, when they come to deal with it, in a more generous fashion. (Laughter.) .
