RAILWAYMEN DISMISSED.
NO MONEY TO PAY THEM. (by cablb— pbess association coptbight.) (austbalian and h.z. casus association.) (Received March 7th, 1.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 6. Between 400 and 500 employees of the Railway Service are being immediately dismissed~.as part of the State Government's retrenchment policy. This is an outcome of the agreement between the Commonwealth and the States that the latter should not borrow until the Commonwealth loan requirements had been satisfied. The dismissals chiefly affect the construction and rolling-stock workshops. Lack of funds to pay wages is given as the cause of the step.
