SCHOOL OF HORTICULTURE.
A DUNEDIN MOVEMENT. (PBXSS ASSOCIITIOK TKLEGBAM.) DUNEDIN, March 6. A meeting was held to-night with the object of forming a branch of what was known as the District Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, with the aim of focussing in one body the interests of all those identified with horticulture. Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., presided, and an interesting address was given by Mr G. Green, iJ.R.H.b., on the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture and what ,it aimed at. The following resolutions were carried: — That this meeting endorses the objects of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, and hereby resolves to form an Otago District Council under the constitution and by-laws of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture (incorporated); that this meeting is in hearty accord with the proposals to further horticultural education in the Dominion; that the executive be requested to take the necessary steps to secure the assistance of all.able to further the movement with the object of a school of horticulture being set up in Dunedin under the direction of the Institute of Horticulture at the earliest possible date; that this meeting of horticulturists and others interested in the development of horticulture in New Zealand strongly supports the New Zealand Association of Nurserymen in the request that the Government should advance pound for pound up to £l5O for this year to assist the work of organising the Institute of Horticulture, and that the matter of further advances be on the basis of the progress of the institute ; that the Government be asked to provide more liberally for educative and research work along horticultural lines, and that the Government biological staff be provided with the most up-to-date appliances for carrying out their work effectively.
