HUMPHREY BISHOP COMPANY.
1 It is announced that the English Humphrey Bishop comedy and operatic company is short".y to pay the long-promised visit to Christchurch. The company arrived in Auckland a week before Christmas with a. very high reputation as entertainers. Their five weeks' season in Auckland enhanced that reputation. Following on somewhat similar unes to those of one or two other companies which have visited the Dominion, but said to be on a bigger and more pretentious eca.e, the entertainment provided is the most diversified and entertaining. It is stated that the opening overture of ' the company's orchestra is always listened to with absolute enjoyment and marked at its termination with enthusiastic applause. The comedy is described as particularly strong—there are four comedians—each said to bo a star in his own especial line. Baritone Kingsley, it is stated, is a rare treat, and tenor Joffey equally pleasing. The whole show, which is under the personal supervision and direction of Mr Humphrey Bishop (described as one of the finest basses in the world), is eajd to _po with a rare sparkle from "start to finish. The company will open at the Theatre Royal on Saturday, 15th inst.
