CASUALTIES.
M. Harper, aged 31, married, who resides at 58 Longfellow street, Sydenham, wliiic working at the Technical College yesterday, caught his left arm in some shafting, necessitating his admission to tho Hospital, where it wu found that tho arm had been broken.

A recent arrival from England,, George Smith, aged about 3G, waa drowned bv falling off the eteaai traw-> Idr Ahuriri, of which he was ipate, ;m v Waiheke Passage this morning. His foot caught in the -hauling ropes of tho tra.wl and he was dragged overboard. He was dead before being hauled in four minutes later. It is believed be had a wife in England. NEW PLYMOUTH. March 5.. A flying piece of wood, which sped at tremendous velocity off a> circular saw, caused the death of Percy Bonald Spurr, aged 45, a well-known Waitoitoi farmer to-day. The wood pierced a blood-vessel in the neck, internal bleeding causing death from suffocation. He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters; WELLINGTON, March 0. The backiiring of a six-pounder #un in the last heated minutes of a mimio nigbt attack at tho military pageant in Newtown Park last ni"ht, duo to the breech being insecurely fastened, resulted in the loader receiving injuries to his hand and two others .of the gun's crew being less seriously injured. All were admitted to hospital. The most seriously injured was a man named James Patrick, who had .the fingers of his right hand considerably shattered. The second man, Archer, received severe cuts about the ribs. The third man, who received injuries to his face, was able to walk home after treat- | ment.
