THE SECOND TEST.

K. JAMES AS WICKET-KEEPER. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 5. K. James, of Wellington, has been chosen as the wicket-keeper in place of M. Boon, of Canterbury, for the New Zeafand second test team.

Steady rain set in to-day, but a clearance to-morrow should leave the wicket la good condition for the start of the match on Friday.

VETERANS V. BOYS' ASSOCIATION.

Yesterday afternoon a game between the Veterans and a Canterbury Boys' Cricket Association team was commenced at the Boys' Association ground, Hospital Corner.

Tho Veterans won the toss and went to the wickets, opening their inning's with H. E. Lawrence and Harris. Runs came fairly freely and the total had reached 86, when the first wicket fell, Lawrence being' bowled after scoring 53. Harris was joined by White and runs continued to mount, but when tho total was 109 Harris got lbw to a straight one from Mann. Harris had scr.rcd a good 40. White was the next balsman to go, but he notched a good 41 before he was caught at square leg. Gordon batted vigorously, gaining 31, which included two sixers, before he was caught. I'os started slowiy, but eoon. got his eye in, and ran up 43 runs in quick time. Henderson 19, Brook 18 and Butler 11 also secured double figures, tile innings closing for 271.

The Association team oj?ened with C. Weich and J. Tierr. Both batsmen were aggressive and when tho first wicket fell 3-t runs had been scored, Kerr the out man, having notched 17. A. Roberts came in. but two runs later lost Welch, who was smartly caught and bowled by Harris. D. Arnott joined Roberta and runs begaji t.o mount quickly. At 6 p.m. when stumps were drawn the total stood at 130 for two wir.kcts. The gajne is to be played out and will be resumed next WeSnesday at Hospital Corner. Play is to commence at 2.30 p.m. Detailed scores: —
