Archbishop Cattaneo, Papal Delegate to Australia and New Zealand, who took part in the celebration of Archbishop Redwood's golden jubilee in Wellington, left Auckland on Tuesday by the Tofua, on a visit to the Jslands. Bishop Darnand, of Samoa, was a,passenger by the same vessel. Mr G. Laughton, Grand Treasurer of the North Island Grand Lod<*e, U.A.0.D., and Mr A. The presentation, which was made by Lieutenant Friclfleton, V.C., was in appreciation of the manner in which Lieutenant Smith had looked after the company during the recent training at Burnham Camp.

The possibility of a visit to New Zealand being made by Mr Lloyd George was mentioned at the Welsh Society's St. David's Day celebrations at Wellington. It was stated that the Australian Cymery were trying to secure the r services of Mr Lloyd George for their next annual function and that if they were successful Wellington would try to secure a visit from the exPremier of Britain. At yesterday's meeting of the Harbour Board it was decided, on the motion of Mr H. Holland: "That tho Board place on record its regret at the retirement of Mr J. B. Mitchell, District Traffic Manager of Railways, and expresses deep appreciation of his services, at the same time wishing Mr Mitchell many years of happiness in his retirement." The motion was carried unanimously. Constable W. T. Kelly, who has been stationed in Dunedin for the past fourteen years, has received notice of his promotion to the rank of sergeant, and will transfer to Christchurch at an early date. Sergeant Kelly was for six vears in the plain clothes department and for two years a detective. For eleven months lie was detective in charge of the Invercargill district. For the past two rears he has been assistant clerk in the district office at Dunedin. At last night's session of the Methodist Conference, Mr J. H. Edmondson. on behalf of the Home Missionaries of the Church, presented the ltev T. G. Brooke, who is on the _ eve of his retirement from the position of secretary of the Home Mission and Church Extension Department, with a handsome rosewood clock, and Mrs Brooke with a beautifully bound volume as a token of the goodwill ot the Homo Missionaries of the Church throughout a enZealand.
