MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.
Sopinath Sama, the Bengalese student who shot Ernest Day at Calcutta on January 12th, in mistako for tho Commissioner of Police, has been executed. Earth tremors were felt ail along the north-west coast of Tasmania on Saturday night. Angus Murray, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Mr Berriman, at Glenferrio (Victoria), has appealed against the sentence. The Swiss navy is no longer a jsko, as Switzerland's right to possess ships is recognised. Influential personages and business men are organising a commercial fleet to reduce the cost of imports and diminish the cost of living. The Empire squadron has arrived at Albany, where the ships will bb painted before proceeding to Adelaide. Described as the first bonus liner, tho Montrose left London for Canada with 400 settlers under the new scheme, which entitles emigrants to a bonus of £3, paid by tho Canadian Government at the port of disembarkation.
