LONDON BEGGARS.

■ - ■ ♦ EARN £2 A DAY. cable—press association—copybjoht.) (Sydney "Sun" Seuvice.)

LONDON, March 2. Arthur Martin, Chief Constable of the London Mendicity Society, states that there are thousands more beggars in London than in 1914. Only one in 50 is genuine, and few make less than £2 a day.

The Chief Constable recalls a ease in which he followed home a ragged beggar who occupied a pitch at Liverpool street Railway Station for years. The officer found that the beggar lived in a comfortable suburban villa, drove his own motor-car, and dined in evening dress with his wife at a West End restaurant.
