Another story, attributed to a lady who made an extended tour of Papua, tells of the wholesale massacre of one tribe by another in the Sepik River district. The narrator states that she 6aw 68 bodies scattered around, with hundreds of spears pinning them to the ground or to the baskets in which they hacl slept. There were ,37 survivors, all terribly mutilated. Enquiries in Sydney failed to disclose any official information on the subject.
