The monthly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Crue-ty to Animals was held lust night. Pre.ent: Air J. 0. Jameson (chairman), Mrs Biltciiff, Messrs A. Morten, J. Spillei', A. \V. MacGillivray and K. Wilson. The inspector, Mr D. J. "While, brought under tue notice of the commutte the Ujii of loading live stock at Waitangi, tluuham Islaucls. Sheep were taken out in a similar manner, only four or five at a time and nj daubt were subjected to a fair amount of crue.ty. Ha had been informed by a very gcod autkonty that if a breakwater 300 feet long and 20 feet deep, made up by rojk whi-h ho understood wa3 thi're in abundance, was constructed, the steamer would be able to go alongside the breakwater and easily load the stock. "You really want Government assistance in the matter," said Mr Morten. The Inspector said that he was of the opinion that if the Society moved in the matter some assistance might be gained and something might be done.
It was decided to endaavour to have the loading conditions improved. The financial statement showed a debit balance of £9 4s lOd.
