VICTORIA HOUSE PICNIC.
The employees of W. Strange and Co., Ltd., held their annual picnic at Little River on Saturday. The weather was ideal for a day's outing, and over 400 adults and children made the journey. A programme of sports, races, and competitions kept all busy and happy throughout tne day. The smaller chi.dren were presented with balloons and toys, even the bauiea not being forgotten. At the conclusion of the programme the prizes were presented by Airs J. C. Burrows, a daughter of the founder of the firm. Beiore calling on Mrs Burrows to make the presentations, Mr E. H. Wylea, the general manager, expressed the pleasure it gave him and the company to see the many evidences of the cordial relations and good feeling existing between the management and the staff He regretted the absence of Mr W. S. Strange, who hud just left on a trip to Europe, and also of some of the directors, who had been unable to attend. On behalf of the employees, Mr F. Hope thanked the company for their continued interest in, and generous assistance to the social activities of the staff. Cole 1, Miss Keighley 2, Miss McFarlane 3. Single Ladies' Race, over 13 —Misa Hindle 1, Miss Patterson 2, Mi* Sykes 3. Youths' Race—F. Tonkin 1, R. Thomas 2, C. Angus 3. Committeemen's Knee—W. Hay 1, W. Gabb 2, P. Cole 3. Elopement Kace—Miss Beamish and Mr Queree 1, Miss Ayling and Mr Kilpatrick 2. Ladies' Sack Race—Miss Hindle 1, Misa F. Taylor 2. Girls' Skipping Competition—'Miss S. Cole 1, Miss Green 2. Naildriving Competition—Miss McLachlan 1, Mias Tappling 2. Dabbing Competition— Mrs Queree 1, Mrs Oliver 2. Stepping Competition—Miss'Sykes 1, Miss Graham 2. There were also mimeroua races for children of all ages.
