N.S.W. SHALE WOJtKS. (Bt CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION COPCT.IOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN ASD N.Z. CASUS ASSOCIATION^ SYDNEY, February 13. Th© Closer Unity Committee, representative of all sections of the employees in the coal and shale mining industry, decided to declare the Newnea Shale and Oil works "black." Tho works closed about 13 months ago, but a number of men were kept employed refining the imported crude oil. The coal neceesary for this has been obtained from outside sources.
In August last the Miners' Federation endeavoured to force a resumption of work at the local shale and coal mines and a resolution was carried declaring the works "black" if work was not resumed within a month, but action was delayed in the hope that a compulsory conference would bo called to bring about a settlement. This was not done and the locomotive drivers now have been instructed not to transport coal to the Newnes Valley.
