RHINELAND.

"REPUBLIC" ENDED.

FAILURE OF SEPARATISTS

(BT CABLE—MESS ASSOCIATION—COrTHIOfII. 1 ("TEE ITStES.")

LONDON, February 12

The Cologne correspondent of "'The Times" says that Rhinelancl Separatists are rapidly and silently disappearing from tho Rhineland, and the time would seem to have come to write "finis'' to this chapter of a most unconvincing parody. The offioial gazette of tho "Republican Government'' has ceased to appear, or rather has again adopted its former name, "The Rhinelander."

All this does not necessarily mean that the various puppets of the "Rhineland Republic" will not ix> heard of again. It merely indicates that for the moment they are laid aside, though ;in such a tattered condition that their early re-appearance in the limelight is unlikely.

It is known that Dr. Dorten has not abandoned all hope of resucitation and Herr Matthes also appears to still be full of fight. Herr Matthes, addressing a, meeting of Separatist unemployed, declared that a new movement was already in being in which the mistakes of tho past would not be repeated. No revolutionary action would be undertaken but an attempt would be made to win ovor the workers with tho ultimate aim of creating a single Rhine-Ruhr state. Other Separatist leaders appear to be working along different lines, but none of the movements need bo taken seriously, as they do not bear tho slightest resemblanoe to a popular movement.
