(Received February 13th, 11.5 p.m.)
NEW YORK, February 12,
An Atlanta (Georgia) message says that an interesting development in connexio'n with the Ku Klux Ivlan is disclosed in a contractual bargain whereby Colonel William Simmons, founder of the Klan, in consideration of 145,000 dollars cash, resigned tho office of Emperor and disposed of all interest in the organisation, thereby assuring the devolution of tho so-called "Emperorship" upon Dr. Hiram Evans, against whose faction Simmons promises to all pending litigation. Meanwhile Klan officials claim they are reliably informed that Simmons, despite his promised retirement, has, in Florida, placed himself at tho head of a new organisation called tho Knighte of the Flaming Sword. It is expected that the Knights and tho Klux may later dispute for supremacy in the leadership ol' American Fascismo.
