An interesting relie of old-time municipal Christchurch was exhibited at Tuesday night's meeting of the Fire Board in the shape of a summons to a member of the Christchurch Borough Council to attend a meeting of that body. The notice is dated October 21st, 1868, and is written on blue paper. It starts off with true old-time furinality; —" Cr. Ward. —Dear Sir,—His Worship the Major desires me to inform you that he desires the Council to meet at .3 o'clock on Monday afternoon-' Two notices of motion, are set. out, the more interesting one being that relating to the purchase of 300 ft of canvas .-hose for the town fire engine, "dependent on the Liverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company not removing tho engine from town." The motion also set jut that "the Council | will approve of, and assist the formation of a brigade to take charge of and work the engine." The engine referred to was the old hand pump (reported to be still in existence) piesented to the "city" by the Idverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company. It was stated that this interesting document was forwarded to the Board's secretary by Mr P. Z. D. Ferriman, of Ashburton, and it was decided to write and thank hira. The opinion was expressed by one member of the Board that the document should be framed.
