WAIMAKARIRI RIVER TRUST.

A meeting of the Waimi&aiiri Eiver Trust vras hold yesterday. Present—Messrs J. VY<ood (chairman), O. H. Oj>io, J. Leslie, O. Manhire. W- P. Spencer, P. G. Eorrcll, J. H. Blackwell, and K. O. Dixon. Thn owners of "baches" at Stewart's Gully torwarded a petition to tho Trust, asking for tho formation of a motor road and for water supply pipes. Tho petition v/afl received and referred to the Works Committee. Tho overseer, Mr Jeal, reported that tho rivet- was more or iesa in nood during tne month of December, causing damage to No. 4 groyno at Mason's Plat, sinking the new groyne and lacing work at Stewart's Gully, and causing much erosion on tho north bank from West Boundary road down to tho College Beserve. During January there were five floods; tho largest, on January 11th, was -within a few inche3 of going on to the North road at Chaney'e. The flood damaged tho end of Ko. 10 groyne at Ealkett, tank tho lower groyne and lacing at Stewart's Gullv, damaged the base of No. 3 groyne, Mason's Plat, and uiuch erosion took place on tho north work. A- considerable amount of repair work had been done during December and January. The course of the river had altered from Ooartenay downwards. In the vicinity of HaLkett several large lupin idandjT had been washed away. The Paparua County Council's lower intake which, for about nine vears. had been dry, waß again in use. "Opposite the West Boundary road, on the north bank, the river was making a strong attack and had washed out several largo blnegnma. At the conclusion of his report, Mr Jeal mentioned the rabbits on the flats and north Eide of the Waimnkajiri river. The rabbits on the flats were very numerous and he asked if the Trust -would te responsible for poisoning. Tho report vraa adopted, and Mr Jeal *j» authorised to poison the rabbits.
