DOMINION AWARD SOUGHT.

WELLINGTON, January 31. In connexion with the proceedings before the Conciliation Council, in which the shop assistants seek a Dominion award, the important points in the dispute were referred to the Arbitration Court. The clause regarding -underrate workers was allowed to st:ir>u, and the matter of the proportion of apprentices was referred to the Court, also certain preference clauses. The Court is to be asked to give an interpretation in regard to overtime and preference for departmental heads. Mr Croskery: They have not been exempted from any award in England or Australia. The Commissioner said the Christchurch award was without prejudice regarding wages. Mr Hammond, for the employers, declared that they intended to ask for a reduction of the junior rates, and further discussion was useless. The whole question of wages was referred to the Arbitration Court.
