The Socialist amendment to M. Foincare's financial measures produced aa important debate with refcience to the scandals in connexion with the devastated areas.
Supporters of the amendment joined in a demand for tho sifting of the reconstruction re-claims to 'the bottom. The Chamber was amazed when M. Fougcre, president of tho sub-commis-sion conducting the recent enquiries, declared that M. Roibel, Minister tor the Liberated Regions, had refused to collaborate in the sub-commission's work.
M. Reibel repbed that ho was always willing to supply information needed: but ho had "been sceptical regarding the competence of M. Fougc-re's eubcommission, faced with overwhelming demands, to clear up the malpractice. The Government accepted the Socialists' demand that all claims for indemnities exceeding 500,000 francs should be subject to revision.
