The New Zealand shimming championships were continued to-day, when the heats in the various events were swrun. Hesults100 yds Intermediate Girls' N.Z. Championship. First heat—E. Hill at 300 yards had a couple of yards to spare from Batchelor, who later lessened the gap somewhat. Hill, however, had plenty to spare, and won by three yards easing up. WANGANUI, January 30. The Half-Milo Championship resulted in Atkinson gaining a win from the holder of the title, Hill. He won caeuig up from Bradley in 1113 heat in good time. Batchelor, who was second to Hill in his heat in the morning, failed to start in the final. Atkinson swam strongly all tho way, and drew away from Hill, to win in fourteen seconds under standard time. Hill cwam well, but found Atkinson too good. Herd, swimming in the 220ydfl Breaststroke, broke the New Zealand record in his heat in tho morning, and bettered his performance in the evening doing the distance in 2 1-Sscc better than the time standing to tho credit of Atkinson. Claridge he'd tho lead up to 100 yards, and then Herd went away from the field, to win by ten ynids. The 410 yds Ladies' saw Miss Shand have an easy win, <after leading all tho way She failed io breai tho record standing to Miss Hoeft. but would have done better (Continued at foot of nast column.)

with someone to make a harder race. Miss Stockley swam a good race into second place, while Mies Fisher was a length away tnird. McTigua failed to stay the pace set by Boyd in tho Intermediate Boys' Breaststroke. Tho time was 16seo outside Herd's record of last year, and 2-saeo inside the standard time.

The 100 yds Girls' Intermediate sivw both the Canterbury representatives beaten in their heats. The final provided a great race between Misses Page, Bell, and Jepson. The Qtago girl gained a slight' lead and maintained it in spite of determined challenges by the Ancklanders. Her time, 1 3-ssec outside Miss Page's record, shows gre%t promise as she was only a_ junior last year. Miss Bell swam strongly into second place with Miss Page. A good race was witnessed in the final of the Junior Girls' 100 yds between Misses Coutts and Magee, the formar winmng by a touch in 3 2-osec under tae standard. The first stage o£ the mon's end women's diving was taken to-night. Voght was diving extremely well, and Miss Existed also showed good form. In the Junior Boys' 440 yds Championship, Cameron failed to stay with his older opponent, and after being with, the winner at tha halfway mark, he dropped back. His time,was inside the standard.

The replay in the polo between 'Wellington and Canterbury produced a good gome, Canterbury were again without Atkinson, and Batchclor also did not play. At halftime Canterbury had a lead of one goal, scored by Sutherland, and the aamo p'ayir increased the lead in the second Bpeil. Canterbury now play Auckland for the championship. Canterbury, with 49 points, have a good hold on the Yaldhnrst Shield, Auckland having only 20 points. Competition will be keen for tha War Memorial Shield.
