The deceased was a son or Mr George Bell, formerly managing director of the Dunedin Evening Company, and a brother of Mr It. 1Bell, a member of the directorate and the editorial staff of the "Star."

Tho death is announced by cablegram from England of the Hon. bir Joseph Turner Hutchinson, late Justice of Ceylon and brother of -*l r John Hutchinson, J.P., of Pencarrow avenue, Mount Eden, Auckland. J>ir Joseph, who died on January 20th ; at his residence, Newtown, Raven glass, Cumberland, in his 74th year, was the owner of an estate in Cumberland which had been in the Hutchinson family since 1664. He was educated a St. Bees Grammar School, and at Christ's College, Cambridge, taking his M.A. degree in 1576. Admitted a_har-rister-of the Middle Temple in lb/9, he was, some ten years later, appointed Chief Justice of the Gold Coast Colony. He held the position of Chief Justice of Grenada, West Indies, from 1890 to 1897, and in the latter year he became Chief Justice of Cvnrus, which post ne held until 1906. He was Chief Justice of Ceylon from 1906 to 1911. Sir Joseph's knighthood was conferred upon him in 189-5.
