FIRES.

OUTBREAK AT COBDEN. (SPECIAL TO ''TUB PEESS.") GREYMOUTH, January 29. A fire broke out in Cobden about 10.15 to-night, at the garage of' Mr H. Hahn, in Fox street. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. Before the Cobden fire brigade conld arrive on the scene, the whole building was a mass of flames, and a Brockway truck, valued at £.BOO, which had only recently been overhauled, was completely destroyed. The chief danger existed in the proximity of a house occupied by the Excell family. As it was, the washhouse caught fire, and only the prompt action of a bucket brigade prevented the flames spreading to the residence. It was some time before a good water pressure was obtained, but once it was secured, the lire was quickly extinguished, and all danger removed. The paintwork of Excell's house is badly scorched. The insurances were not available to-night.
