"OH, BOY!"
GRACIE LA VERS TO WED. The Australian and New Zealand stage will lose one of its most pleasant personalities when little Gracie Lavers makes her final bow. Gracie will become a permanent leading lady (says the Sydney "Daily Guardian"), for on February 19th she is to marry Kingsbury Baillieu, of the wealthy Baillieu family. Mr Hugh J. Ward will give the bride away. Miss Lavers is following in the footsteps of many .others from the stage. Mrs T. H. Kelly was formerly Miss Etljel Knight Mollison, who in 1902 appeared in "Are You a under the management of J. C. "Williamson, Ltd. The following year Her Majesty's was reopened with a dramatised form of "Madame Butterfly," with Miss Mollison in the title-role.
Miss Olive Morrell, who became the wife of a brother, Mr W. Kelly, was the principal girl in the "Mother Goose" pantomime of 1907. Mr Kelly was for many years the member in the House of Representatives for Wentworth (N.S.W.). Miss Margaret Thomas , -was married from the stage to Mr Justice Gordon at a time when she was appearing in "Veronique." Miss Maud Jeffries became the wife of Mr Osborne shortly after coming to Australia in 1903 as leading lady with Julius Knight. Among the plays in which she was seen with that actor wero "Beaucaire," -"Resurrection," "The Sign of the Cross," and "The Darling of the Gods." Miss Dorothy Vane joined fhe "Royal Corriic Opera Co. in 1897. Some years later she said "I will!" to Mr Norman Menzies, of Menzies' Hotel, Melbourne. Miss Vane made a "brief return to the stage early in 1914 in GilbertSullivan roles.
Miss Fanny Dango. -who became the wife of Mr Sam McKay, was another member of the Royal Comio Opera Co. Miss Dango' was a sister of the famous Letty land, who died the other day in I/ondon. Still another _ who married into wealth and social position is Miss Clara Clifton, a stag© contemporary of Mrs Justice Gordon.
