PERSONAL. Mr J. Jellicoe, who for a very considerable period regularly visited tho Ashburton and Tinwald yards as auctioneer for Messrs H. Matson and Co., was a visitor to the Ashburton yards yesterday, and was warmly welcomed by a. largo number of his old friends and clients. Mr Jellicoe dropped auctioneering about three years ago, and took up farming pursuits near his old home in Southland. General Nows. The Allenton School and the Ashburton Woollen Mills will hold a combined picnic to Timuru on Saturday. To-morrow the East Ashburton Swimming Ciub and the Ashburton Club will hold races at their respective baths at 6.30 p.m. The former club will hold a 50yds handicap and a 50yds breaststroke handicap, while the latter club's programme consists of a 100 yds handicap, a 33 l-3yds boys' race, and a 25yds schoolgirls' race. Becently a relay swimming race was contested between the Union Bank and the Bank oi! New Zealand. The' Union Bank's team scored a comfortable win. The work of -the Plunket Society in Ashburton has grown bo rapidly that an assistant nurse to Nurse Withell is to commence duties hero on Monday next. The society was advised by district. headquarters" that tho new nurse would be Nurse McKenny. For some time past Nurso "Withell has had to close the Ashburton office on the days of her trips to the country centres, but from Monday on it will be open daily. It is hoped shortly to have the. Mount Somers and Mavfield branches working, which will bo possible that an assistant has been obtained. The two nurse's will take turn about in town and country^ Athletics. ! The Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will hold an evening meeting at the Domain this afternoon. Tho first event is timed to start at 5.30 Most interest will be centred in the rolay race, where the scratch team ia giving away 50yds.
