Spooking at an official dinner, ViceAdmiral Saito, of the visiting Japanese squadron, supplied a sequel to the story of the German raider Emden.
He said that when news of the raider was received, the Japanese cruiser Ibuki rushed off to intercept her, but the Australian cruiser Sydney got their first. "While the Japanese realised what a splendid fight the (Sydney made, they were a bit disappointed bocause they had been too late to taio a hand in the final battle.
Referring to the Washington-Treaty's replacement of the Anglo-Japanese Alhence, he said that it had not altered the feeling between Japan and Britain. If anything, it was stronger than ever.
