Salvaging operations in connexion with the wrecked C. and I>. steamer Port Elliot arc being continued, 'Although tho sea around the stranded shin is fairly rough.' The Mako, with a full load of benzine and kerosene, is leaving to-day for Napier. Tho Aivahou is now loading the same class of cargo and is to bo despatched during the next day or two. Messrs Richardson and Co. have been very fortunate in having such a safe place towork from as Hicks Bay, for all th© cargo has to be transhipped from the lightens to the coastal boats. The wreck lies about one hour's steam from Hicks Bay. Mr Wallace, Messrs Richardson and Co.'s marine superintendent, is bringing an extra gang' of men to dismantle ail gear possible. Cases of motor-cars are floating about in the holds, some of the boxes being badly smashed, and ho .ire to l>e left to their fate. The Customs official is still on board the wreck.
