BURWOOD SCHOOL FETE.

MEETING OF RESIDENTS

A very enthus'nstic mee ing of the residents of the Burwood district way held on Thursday evening ■ when the following were present:—MesdameF, TodhunUir and Bowse and Messrs J. Liggins, J. McKechie, Cr. Lewis, J. Byers, F. Reaby, B. Robinson, R. Roper, W. Bampton. K. Todhuntcr, A. Cumlerpatch; W. Toduunter, A. Farrar, -H. Rowse, and L. B. Braclstock. Correspondence was received from ili3 Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., signifying his intention of being present on the day of the fete, and agreeing to perform the opening ceremony. It was decided to 'give merit car3s for the school children's exhibits and the headmaster was asked to provide the required number. _ -Mcsdames Tobin and'Davidson and Mr G. Davidson were appointed judges of the fchoo! work and Messrs J. and J. MclCechnie of the children's pets. ■ . . All stallholders reported that work was well in hind and that donatio 3 were coming in ■ freely. Mrs Todhuntcr agreed to take charge of the afternoon tea and she was authorised to purchase the. necessary pravisions, and Mrs Rowse to spend a further £5 on material for the wark stall. The charge for afternoon-tea was -fix'd !at Is, and,-it . was decided that only invited guests be provided with t-e.i. free of. cost. Mr Liggins agreed to procure black and gold ribbons''which were to be worn by oil stallholders on the day of the fete. Mr Bampton • offered ti supply the milk, and Mir. Ropor tea for the afternoon tea. It was decided that all surprise packet's should be sent to Mr Farrar. by Thursday, February 7th, and if uiere was not sufficient lie be authorised to purchase thi balance. Messrs F. Reaby and J. Byers gave a report of theiir collecting and both received a very, hearty, vote of thank 3 :"or their good work. _ .'' , At the conclusion -of the meeting thi School Committee made final arrangements for the picnic which is, to bo held at Ambarley on February 16th. The tram will leave Burwood at 8 o'clock will meet tho train oi» its return. The children wi 1 be carried free of charge, and the edults will be charged 4d each way. The chairman reported that lie had received the railway tickets which would cost 3s &d return for pdults and Is 4d for dnlcirqn, and it was decided to issue them on the train. The Committee agreed .to supply tea, sugar and milk, and to vote £5 for chi dren 3 prizes. ,
