Under date of October 24th, our London correspondent writes: —Colonel P. Fry, D.5.0., hon. secretary of the School" of Science and Art, "Weston-Siiper-Mare, has sent me an appreciation of Mr F. A. Shurrock, who, at an early date ; will be leaving for New Zealand to take up his position at the Christchurch. School oi : Art. Col. Fry tells me that Mr Shurrock was selected as the headmaster of Weston-Super-Mare School of Art out of 70 applicants. He took tip hie position in 1919, and he really re-opened the school which had been practically closed for some time. Col. Fry continues: ; 'I need only say that lie has scored a great success and has developed the school into a most useful and flourishing institution. His great tact and strong personality—which is personality which draws one to him—and his untiring energy in advancing the work of the school in every direction, are his greatest attributes over and above his art qualifications. His gaiii will be our loss, and although 1 have not been able 'to consult tne Committee I know their feelings and can say that we shall feel ourselv©3 extremely fortunate if we can find a man so suitable for 'the position as Mr Shurrock has been. We wisli him every success whilst deploring his loss. Mr Shurrock is going out by the Osterley on December Bth.

Dr. C. C. Anderson (Napier), who has accepted the position of Radiologist at Dunedin Hospital, intends to leave England on December Bth, by the Osterley, accompanied by Mrs Anderson (writes our London correspondent). Since coming-to England toward the end of 1920 Dr. Anderson has done a great deal of research work in his special department, not only in this country but also on the Continent, and ho has been awarded several distinctions.. After having gained th© diploma of Medical Radiology and Uleetrolagy at Liverpool in 1921, he was appointed Clinical Assistant to X-Ray and Electrical Departments of Liverpool Infirmary. In the middle of the same year ■he was elected Research Scholar to the X-Ray Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and subsequently he visited the X-Ray clinics and schools at leading Continental centres, where, altogether six months were spent. He was at Erlangen, Munich, Vienna, Freiburg, Frankfort, Berlin, Stockholm and Paris. Returning to England in 1922 Dr. Anderson was for four months Acting Radiological Registrar X-Ray Department, Manchester Royal Infirmary, and from then until the _ end of 1922 hia time was devoted entirely to Research Scholarship work. During this year Dr. Anderson has been Radiologist (Intensive Therapy) to tho Christie Cancer Hospital and Clinical Assistant to the Manchester and District Radium Institute. It will bo realised that the newly-elected Radiologist to Dunedin Hospital has had tho latest and most up-to-date course of study and practice that Europe can offer.
