SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
■ >lr <*• A. Alexander , presided . over the ' monthly meeting of the Sumner School Committee. Present: Mesdames Fountain Barber, J. Lee, Messrs F. H. Mathews, F. G.: Glackin, G. F. Newman, C. S. Booth, and J. Browne. Mr A. S. Clarke was elected a member, and "welcomed by the chairman. It was.reported that the tender of Mr "Westall had been accepted for the building of the teachers' room. It was decided that the annual prize-giving Ehould take place 011 December 29th, the junior prizes and sports" prizes for the lower classes to bo . presented in the afternoon by the Mayoress Mrs W. li. Nicholson), and the senior prizes in the evening at the Town Hall -by the Mayor. A number of replies to the circular sent out by-the committee in connexion with the Borough picnic were considered. It was decided to hold the picnic at the Scarborouph Beach Reserve on Saturday, February 2nd, at 10 a.m.; lunch., and afternoon tea to bo provided for thi, children; and hot water, sugar, and tia for the adults. It was agreed to hire the chute for the children, and ask the band to .attend. A sub-committee, consisting of Mesdames Barber, Lee, the chairman, and headmaster was appoipted to arrange details. The applications for the position of assistant master were received, and tho Board's recommendation, Mr Yi\ H. Jackson, of Gorge Bridge, Southland, confirmed. A circular, letter was received from the Board of Educa : tion regarding supplies Of first aid-material. It was decided to purchase a set, the matter being left in tho hands of the chairman and the headmaster. The monthly report showed a roll of 385,- and an averse attandanca o' 252.
