Manv pr.n3 of cows of all ages and i-rcs woro included la the entry, y.-ith a r"" portion of heiiers, mostly light, bu: . r i__.i: i ltv . There were appearance of being too hascily fattened or -pre aged, showing too much, hoi attractive, also thcro were. mimer< 3ho wins signs of travel. The niu lets from small vendors "was considerably ,n excess of the average, and was rejspontany sales of single beasts. The general review is that most of tho .cattle ci'howed dry in tho coat and for ike most part were unattractive. In our opinion, the quotes were as fol.ows: Extra, choice steers, 30s to 35s -ner 1001b. Prime stecT3, ISa to 30s per 1001b. Plain, coir.ve or travelled steers, 23s to 27s pt-r 1001b. Again there wis a large entry, uad fit. this particular market, as elsewhere, there is always good competition for the extra prime article, the average entry suffering as soon as- tho buyers have filled their requirements. There was a large tail-end at to-day's sale, and anything except the wellfinished article was indeed hard to quit. On the entry penned to-day wo quote: Best runners, up to £1 10s. Best suckers, up to £'2 18s. Best dairy calves, £1 10s to £1 17s 6d. Medium dairy calves, ISs to 283. Small calves, from Ss lo lGs. Inferior, any old price. FOR BEST PRICES. CONSIGN" YOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON AND CO., ADDINGTON. STORE CATTLEThere was a comparatively small yarding 1 in this department and mostly nondescript lots. There were practically no big cattle yarded. The demand was hardly as keen as has been the case lately, but even so practically tho whole yarding was cleared under the hammer, and taking into consideration the state of tho beef market, tho sale must bo considered a good one. If wo don't get rain eoon, we think what looks like a poor sale to-day might prove a good one a month hence. Any good-class heifers sold very well, one lino of nice Jersey cross empty heifers making £4 Bs, other two-years heifer 3 to £3 10a, and decent cows 35s to £i for tho best sorts. There were really no ether quotable lots offered. DAIRY CATTLE. The entry comprised about 60 cows and full}' 80 per cent, of the entry were cattle of a very poor grade. There was a keen enquiry for first-class cows close to springing or just calved, but unfortunately wo have to record that very few euch were forthcoming. In our opinion the following 1 represents a basis of values on to-day's market:— Best springers, £6 10s to £8 15s. Medium springers, £4 to £6 sb. Inferior emringerß, £2 to £3. Cows in milk, £1 to £3. There were very few heifers yarded and they sold at from £3 10s to £o 10s. FOR BEST PRICES, CONSIGN YOUR STOCK' TO H. MATSON and CO., ADDINGTON. FAT SHEEP. There waa a smaller yarding representing a fair proportion of wethers. The market opened at a sharp rise on the closing rates of last v/eek, and continued ao throughout the whole sale. Ewes sold irrigularly at from last -week's rates to a shade easier. There was fi,len competition, several commissions beifur in the market ior country butchers and West Coaot buyers, about 6 to 7 trucks being purchased on behalf of the Coasters. One or two export buyers were operating:, but their competition was mostly confined to medium weight wethers - and handy ewes, but their consistent competition kept, the market firm throughout. In our opinion there was quite a rise, of la (o Is 6d per head on wether*. "We> quote vrcthers at 6Jd to 7d over all and ewes sk! to Gd. KOB BEST PRICES, CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON and CO., ADDINGTON. FAT LAMBS. There was a fair entry of fat lambs, lany choice consignments coming-forward. Out of the whole of our entry wo had only one consignment that realised below ;os.
