; ♦ A meeting of. the Sumner Gain Committee was held lost night, Mr 'H. 0. Jones presiding in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor.. The dates of- the Gain were fixed for December 28th and 29th. The report .from the executive -was received and adopted, it being decided ,that darts, hooplas, Aunt Sallies, ping-pong, and chocolate games should form part' of the side-shows. The sum of £6 waa allocated for two Baijing races, and £4 for the rowing prizes. Sheep guessing, box ball, and the football games were . also included in the programme, and it was agreed to ask tho Volunteer Lifeboat Brigade to arrange an exhibition 6f sea work. It was decided to hold'a dance on the Friday night. The secretary was instructed to get into touch with the Sumner Marine Band Committee, with a view to securing their services. It was resolved that children's races, married and single women's races, and Highland dancing should be included ill the events, and that a boxing tournament should take place on the Friday and Saturday evenings. The following committees were set up:-Side-show committee: Messrs Reary, Harper, A. A. Cheshire, Rev. McAra, J. Carter, C. M. llosweil (convener), P. Dick, J. Booth, C. S. Booth, F. A. Tapson, and A. C. Allen; grounds committee: Messrs J. Carter, Harper, A. A. Cheshire, J. A. Thomas, Kay, and J. C. McDonald (convener); dance commitee, Messrs Barr, Hampton, Cheshire (convener), Don, Thomas, and Harper; advertising: Messrs C. M. Roswell and H. lc Page, official collector, Mr J. Carter. Tho secretary was instructed to apply to the Council for electricity and gaa and tho use of the foreshore from Morton street tu Clifton bridge.
