A NEW COMET.

(PKK3S ASSOCIATION TELISGRA.iI.) WELLINGTON, December 5. Dr. Adams, Government Astronomer, lias received advice from Mr Moorshead. a New Plymouth observer, to the effect that the latter discovered a new comet on Friday night. The position is 16 hours 53 minutes right ascension and 53 degrees o minutes south declination. Last evening Mr Moorshead reported the position of the comet to be 17 hours right ascension, 52 degrees south declination. Dr. Adams says that Mr Moorshead's second report confirms the correctness of his observation, when he first discovered the comet, whose magnitude is seven to eight, and is not visible to the naked eye. The cloudy weather lately prevented observation at Wellington. Mr Moorshead is a member of th« New Zealand Astronomical Society, and may be entitled to the award of a medal which is made to the first observer of a new comet by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific at San Francisco.
