MADAME LIPKOVSKA'S DRESSES.

The fame of Madame Lipkovska's wardrobe, hardly less than the fame of her wonderful Eoprano voice, has far preceded foer throughout her tour, hut th 3 frocks -worn by the prima donna at the Theatre Royal last night far exceeded, in richness and beauty, the wildest expectations of the women folk in the large audience. Madame Lipkovska first appeared in a handsome frock of deep rose and silver tissue with skirt of Turkish design. Beautiful crystal and jade embroidery adorned the tight fitting corsage, and formed narrow shoulder straps, which crossed at the back. The bouffant side panels of the skirt were of black satm with horizontal rose-coloured stripes, and a narrow train fell from the waist. Her black satin shoes had brilliant buckles and rose pink heels.. Strings of pearls, diamond and a most attractive-loolnng fan of cream and deep rose feathers were suitable adjuncts to this pretty frock. A wonderful colourful mediaeval Russian costume, designed by Nicholas Roerich, was worn T\t en Madame sang the four Russian songs on the programme. Over an ankle-length dress of yellow patterned silk fell a tunic of embroidery in a bewildering riot of colours —green, blue, mauve and red — with huge red and green gems scintillating at interval 3. A deep cuff of emerald green velvet, heavily embroidered, finished the long puffed sleeves of patterned yellow silk and a dozen rows of beads of different colours and varying lengths were worn round the neck. A gorgeously coloured mitrelike Russian head-dress, studded witn jewels, was completed Vit the Lack bv a big bow cif gold tissue which fell below the hem of the skirt.

But the most irresistibly charming frock wasi La Pompadour, a French costume of the 18th century, 6uch as was worn by the ladies of the Couri of Versailles in the reign of Louis XIV. The tight little bodice of heavy silver tissue was outlined with pearls, and the crinoline skirt, which measured many yards round the hem, was composed of tiny frills of creamy pink tulle, billowed over crinoline wires. The und«Tskirt of real lace frills, decorated with true lovers' knots, was in turn, mounted on silver tissue. From a pearl chain hung a jade ornament, which nestled amongst the dainty frills: a narrow jade ribbon was tied round the right wrist, and the snowv nomp*iour wicr, with its white ostrich feather head-dress, was banded with nearls. and a broad jade, ribbon which formed a narrow train at the back. But. without doubt, the frocks need to be seen to be fully appreciated.
