EVENING MEETING. The series of evening meetings arranged by the/ Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, was continued yesterday at Lancaster Park. A fairly strong breeze from the sout:i-wesi did not mnko the ccindiions very pleasant, but otherwise the meeting was most successful. The results were: 350 yds Handicap—First' heat: C. KIRWEE CLUB. •' _ A very successful oYc-nin- meeting was held m the Kirwee Domain, uh, ,i a number of Chnslchureli athletes wer, motored out by C. hj_ ilcCully, pivaidi-nt cf (he Canterbury Centre. Mr Mc-Uolm, who accompanied the party, gave exhibitions of discm throwing, weight putting, and hammer i nowing, and gave tJic men hints aa to the method used. Mr McHolm threw the hammer 1421t ;in, and i>as heartily applauded for hid fine t-.sliioit.on. At the conclusion oi the sports, Uie visitors were entertained at Uu by tli«, membens of the local club. Mr Murchison, president of the club, thanked ill- ilcCully and the members oi ®. team, for the sporting way in which they had come out such a Ion" distance to compete with the local athletes, and stated tuat it was an honour. Mr G. Batstonc also spoke 01 the sporting way in which the visitors had competed. Mr McCmly, in . replying, thanked the club for the way in which his team had been treated, and. said they w,ere only too pleased to come out and assist the local club and help along amateur athletics. Mr X"lcwellen also fpoke, and referred t<> the ate IV. F. Simpson, who had been a iurweo 'athlete, -and whose time of 14min 49sec for three miles still stood as the Australasian record for that distance. Mr Flewellen said that W. F. Simpson was a true sport, and would always go out of has way to give help aird' advice- to young athletes.

Cheers were given for the ladies who had attended to tho refreshments. A social -was afterwards held in the Agricultural Hall/ at 'which' there was a good attendance. Music was suppliejJ by Mesdames A. L. Stewart, an 3F. Johnson, Misa Guthrie,- and Mr A; Hart. Mr H. Foster carried out the duties of M.C.
