Robert McGregor, farm manager, was charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning with the theft of sheep valued at £172 10s, the property of Walter Charles Ensor, of Mangatutu. Detective-Sergeant Butler said Ensor owned 13,000 acres and ran about 10,000 slieep. Accused was part owner of a farm on the Puketitiri road, and also managed a property of 18,000 acres. Tiie latter was situated between Elisor's property and that in which accused was interested. Ihe prosecution suggested that it was across this farm accused drove the sheep from Elisor's place to his own. Ensor put 250 sheep in a certain paddock, and noticing that their numbers seemed to decrease, put in a further ninety. Later he found that 150 had disappeared, and some of these he aaw on accused's property on making a visit there. A detective visited the station and ordered a muster, and among the sheep were 115 two-tooth ewes belonging to Ensor with an added earmark. The hearing of lengthy evidence was not concluded when the Court adjourned for the day.
