FIRST CONCERT TO-NIGHT.

In tho Theatre Royal to-night, Mi E. J. Gravestock will present for the first time ia Christchureh Mme. Lydia Lipkovska, the world-famous • Russian prima donna, whose concerts have created such a furoro throughout Australia, and recently in "Wellington. Mme. Lipkovska, who is n remarkable ttngnist, sings fluently in six different languages, and she hits made a special study of English eongs, and during her season in Christchurch will preesnt a nuuber of old favourites appearing in a delightful Early Victorian costume. Mme. Lipkovska has Wen highly praised for her splendid English, and has been held up as an example to English vocalists for her clear enunciation of songs in English. Australian! were enchanted with the beautiful singer, and record audiences thronged her concerts. Lipkovska's reputation wa» gained in the art ccntreß of the world—Covent Garden, the Metropolitan, New York, La Scala, Milan, Monte Carlo, Paris, Chicago, and Boston Opera Houses. Believing that tho concert platform would become more attractive for the masses, if some of the songs were presented in tho costumes of the period and nation, Madame Lipkovska wear* eomo wonderful dresses which have caused an intense sensation everywhere. To-night Lipkovska will wear, in addition to the conventional evening dress, a roediaetol Russian costume, and a "Pompadour" costume similar to that worn by famous French actresses when attending: the Court of Versailles before Louis XIV. A unique and wondorful programme has been arranged for this evening's concert. Madame Lipkorgka will eing the famous Aria from "La Traviata " "A fors © lui." Cavatina and Rondo from "The Lifo for tho Tsar" (Glinka), "Long Ago, Sweetheart" (Mac Do well), "0 Lovely Night" (Landon Ronald), "Serenade a Pierrot"' (Leoncavallo), "Bolero" (Delibed), "The Soldier's Bride" (Rachmaninoff, "If I Had Known" (Tschaikowsky), Doumka, from "The Sovrochinsk Fair" (Moussorgsky), "To the Russian Singers" (Varlamofi), Aria from "Manon" (Massenet), "The Fair Little Page" (Busser), "The Bird Catchers" (Hernhard), Gavotte (Lemaire), etc. M. Alexander Svcr jensky, the eminent Russian pianist, will oe the soloist and accompanist. Mr Gravestock announces the second concert for Thursday, the third on Saturday, and the final concert on Monday.
