TENTH BATTERY.
TRAINING AT BURNHAM. The second Territorial unit to carry out eix days consolidated training under canvas in accordance with tho new scheme of training for tho current year waa the 10th (18pdr) Battery, J\.Z.A., which 6pent last week under canvas at Burniiam. Williams, K.N.Z.A., Adjutant 3i;d .Brigade, H.Z.A., while the O.C. Battery wad Capt. W. E. Earnshaw. Dinner was served at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, the uleii ; messing at tables erected under the trees, whicli was the messing area for the remainder of camp.
Eight guns were taken into camp and a full ■programme of work was laid down, the whole eight guns being occupied with gun drill, fire discipline and laying, while the drivers had the interesting experience of training some horses (hired from nearby farms) in the intricacies of artillery work. The drivers also had quite <a. lot of training on Lewis guns, while the battery staff spent all their time with their telephones and Lucas lamps. Although all ranis had to work hard during : parade hours, tho lighter side of life was not neglected. At 11.30 a.m. each.,day a swimming parade was held, and in the afternoons tabloid athletio meetings generally, figured in the .programme. A concert with lantern B>lide3 (kindly supplied by the Y.M.C.A.) was held on "Wednesday night.
On Thursday afternoon competitions were held to find out the best eub-section, gunlayer, best driver, Lewis gunner and best signaller,, and resulted as follows:—Beat sub- ; section: "B" Sub-section, Sergt. W. C. Barnard in charge; 'best gun-layer: L.-Bomb. A.M. Hatch; 2nd best gnn-layer: Gnr. F. P. Gay; best frfiwia gunner: Dvr. E. F. 'Young; 2nd" : best 'Lewis gunner: Dvr. F. S. Kiddey; best driver: Dvr.' N. Farrant; Snd -'bfest driver':''Dvr. Mr J. Moore; best signaller: ' ! "Grir.. K. G. Smith.
