WESTINGHOUSE ORDERS.
WORKING AT CAPACITY IN ALL DEPARTMENTS.
Incoming orders of the Westinghouao Electric concern for the first half of the fiscal year, begun on April Ist last, with: September orders partly estimated, ,were .89,400,000 dollars, compared with 69,569,000 dollars in the 1922 yeriod, an improvement of more than 28 per cent., states the '' Christian Science Monitor;'' Bookings for the fiscal year ended March 31st, 1923, were 152,300,000 .dollars. September bookings are estimated at 10,600,000 dollars, compared with 11,500,000 dollars in August. Sales billed for the first Half were about 74,900,000 dollars, with September billings' estimated at 13,600,000' dollars, topping the previous .month by about 60u,00u dollars. Based, on the first half of the fisaal year, net profits for the year are conservatively estimated at well over 8 dollars a share on the 85,776,480 dollars present outstanding common stock or double dividend requirements. Earnings for the present fiscal yetir will be 'at least as guod as for ended March 31st, 1923, despite an additional dividend disbursement of 1,197,002 dollars required for 14,962,500 dollars new common® stock offered in April." , Yvhile orders tor the second quarter were between . 4,000,000 dollars and 5,000,000 dollars less than the previous quarter, officials expect an upturn tteto autumn, chiefly in-small lines of electrical equipment. The lamp business began to pick'up in September,'and will undoubtedly fui'ther its early improvement in autumn and winter Aonths. Orders for central station equipment have slowed up somewhat, fluctuating with the unusual seasonal variation. The peak in unfilled orders was reached in .July. A decline of several millions followed, with billings exceeding bookings in AugustXand September. Orders now on haVd approximate 76,300,000 dollars, compared with ' 61,914,237 dollars on March 31st of thip year. regards recent fall-ing-off .in . unfilled, orders favourably, since it will perniit. the company' to reduce abnormal orders for turbine gene erators and other heavy equipment on hand. In some of these lines it is now booked ahead 18 months. . 1 The company is operating at capacity in practically all departments.. ' Philadelphia and Pittsburg plants are in full operation, while work on the new transformer plant at Sharon, Pa., is beiiig pushed as rapidly as possible, and. it will be ready for business around January Ist. Great increase in transformer business necessitated .this expansion.
