FRUITGROWERS.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association was held on Saturday night in the rooms of the Canterbury A. and P. Association. Mr F. \V. Cone presided over a small attendance. The chairman referred to the piovision of the law which prevents an orchaidist from planting shelter trees oh his boundary if the adjoining owner objects. It was suggested that an attempt should bo made to get the law altered, but the secretary (Mr H. E. Morgan) said that the subject had been discussed at fruitgrowers' conferences, and the view had been expressed that it would be useless to attempt to get the law altered. The chairman said that the -Association had been asked by the Canterbury A. and P. Association to give what assistance it could in connexion with the Winter Show, to be held in Slay on the Addington Show Grounds. They were asked to run the fruit section without taking any responsibility for it: they desired the Association to make as good a show of fruit as possible.

The secretaiy asked if a building would bo available for the fruit exhibits. The chairman said that he understood that the A. and P. Association was considering calling tenders for a big building on the Show Grounds —the cattle pavilion which would be used for exhibits at the Winter Show—but, of course, he did not know if any tender would be accepted. However, the existing buildings would be available. With respect to soft fruits, the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company would preserve them in ice free of charge, exhibitors, of course, paying freight. v It was decided to advertise this matter in order to bring it prominently before all fruitgrowers. Replying to a question, tho chairman said that the Fruitgrowers' Association would be put to no expense in the matter of the fruit section at the Winter Show.

It was decided that the executive, and Messrs F. W. Sisson and J. C. Warner (with power to add), should be the Schedule Committee. The first meeting of the committee was fixed for the loth inst, at 7.30 p.m. The chairman announced that in order to meet expenses in connexion with the British Empire Exhibition the Fruitgrowers' Federation had asked that each member of Fruitgrowers' Associations should give one case of fruit to be sold for the purpose mentioned; if a fruitgrower had fruit that would arrive Homo in good condition, he could send it Home to be sold. The question of arranging for a permanent meeting place for the Association was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr T. Allison to report at the meeting of the Schedule Committee. It was decided that the Association, should take one share in the Institute, of Horticulture. In view of the coming into season of small fruits, it was decided to writ© to the District Traffic Manager of the Railways, and ask that adequate provision be made for small fruits to be carried 011 the express trains.
