Samples; of a quartzite building stone from near Onakaka have been shown to the Nelson ' Mail" by Mr H. P. "Washburn. An important feature is lliat the stone all comes off with two parallel sides, and it has a natural tendency to break square. The colour varies from a light gray to a dark streaky gray. This would give a verv fine effect in any building or shop front. It is anticipated that the cost of the stone would be considerably heaper £han concrete. Mr Washbourn says this is one of the most durable stones to be found anywhere, being composed of silica, and is not affected bv the weather.
