CHRISTCHURCH DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. On Saturday tho Christchurch Defence Rifle Chtb fiicd a friendly jnatch against the Itangiora Defence Kifle Club, at Rangiora. The weather was fine, with a steady to strong rear wind, but \fc.th a changeable light at times, which proved troublesome. Tile best score at 300 yards was put on by Kifleman W. J. Henry tChrbtchurch), with 50 out of a possible 55. At 500 yards* Kifleman K. Piper ((Jhrislchiuch) notched a splendid 3-1 out of 35. Kifleman D. McKay (Kangiora), the veteran of the match, put on top score at 300 ,yajds for the home team with 49, while Kifleman Humphreys (Kangiora) had the highest score at 500 yards with 33. As the canvass of affiliated clubs ior subscriptions had been successful, it wft3 decided to purchase the champion teams shield, and to have it presented to the winning team at the coming meeting, it "was also decided to have the shield date back to the first annual meeting of last year, and to have iihc winners of the mutch of 1022 added. Free ammunition to the extent of 10,000 rounds had been granted to the Association by the Defence Departments for the riflemen competing at the meeting. Arrangements have been made to have twelve mykcrs, under Sergeant-Major W. Bates, of the local staff.
