"THE GOLDEN LEGEND."

A. musical treat has been prepared for the people of Chrislchurcb, and will be given next Saturday night at the Caledonian Hall. During the past year members of thu Christchurch Training College, under the tutelage of Mr Sydney Butler, L.R.A.M., A.R.C.0., have been working up a selection from Sir Arthur Sullivan's dramatic cantata, "The Golden Legend." The chorus will consist of a hundred students. Some members of the lloyal Musical Society will assist with the bass parti, while the solos will be taken by leading Chrißtchurch artists—Miss Dorothy Crichton, Miss Dorothy Sharp, Messrs Geo. Fawcett, A. S. Bell anu a. Joseph. Those who know the works ot the famous composer will look forward to this immortal selection, whiie those less fortunate will then have an opportunity of becoming acquainted with a piece renowned for its rare beauty and the exquisite skill with which the dramatic effect la handled. The cantata alone would be an excellent concert, but in addition, Mr Butler is producing a Very dainty operetta entitled "The Hours," by J. L. Boeckel. Some fifty women students have practised assiduously at this work, and it, too, is brought as near as possible to perfection. The dresses for the four parts—morning, noon, evening and night—make a pretty show, and the music throughout is really delightful.
