At the regular fortnightly meeting of the, Akaroa Borough Council there were pro-, sent—The Mayor (Mr Geo. Arnuitrong), Crs. Stewart Parnham, Williams, Falthfull,", Parnham and Leete. Leave of f absence was granted to Crs. Maeefiejd, Pilkiigton and Pool. f Before business commenced, Jhe Council, on'the motion of Cr. C. W. Leete, its aympathy and condolences' .to the Mayor m connexion with the death of hie brother. Mr -T. M. Shepherd wrote asking for a transfer of his lease of the L'Aube Sill Reserve to A. N. LeLievre.—Referred to Reserves Committee with power to act. The Department of Agriculture wrote jn respect to sundry birch now classed as injurious,. t "• The letter was received. , r The Canterbury Progress League forwarded ooiyes of its financial report. Permission was granted Constable McLennan to erect a motor shed cs the Police Station grounds. The Akaroa Cricket Club wrote inviting! the Council and its staff to a friendly game of cricket on ita opening day, October 4th. The invitation was accepted. ' Mr Orton Bradley wrote stating the Council could have another £IOO on | loan in connexion with Borough Improvement Works. r It was decided to close with the offer, t The Works Committee submitted a lengthy report dealing with improvements, repairs, etc,'in Benoit street, at the Pound, on the Municipal tennis courts, at ihe outlet of , B&lguen creek, and reclamation work at the North' end. After considerable discussion the whole report was adopted. • The report of the foreman contained, among other matter, a detai'ed estimate of reclamation work and a retaining wall. The report was adopted A long discussion took place on the offer made by the Akaroa Tennis C.ub to lay down' new courts on the Council's Pouna Reserve. Finally, on the motion of Cr. Parnham, it was decided that, provided the club undertook to lay down four courte, erect fences, and clean up the property, the Council would fill m the reserve to the required width and would grant the club a lease for 25 \ears at a rental t 0 be hereafter arranged Cr Stewart recorded his dissent Cr Faithfull, as chairman of the .Reserves Committee, brought up the matter of doing, something more to attract visitors to Akaroa. He tabled several suggestions m that etirectl°On the motion of Cr. Parnhum, it was. resolved to ask the Reserves Committee to submit a report thereon at the next meeting of .the Council;
