SUMNER ITEMS.

S. ' . Dance. Although the attendance was not up to expectations, a most enjoyable time was spent by those present at a dance held iu tha Sumner Town Hall in connexion with the Sumner School. The music for dancing was supplied by Barnet-"3 Band, who kindly gave their services free. A dainty supper was supplied. Amongst the dancers vvero Mesdames SeottBaker, Boulton, Cuthbert Booth, Klingenstein, Lee, Douglas Smith, Fountain Barber, Alexander, and the Misses Daphne, Doris, and Ettie Aburn, Doris Churehfield, Benrice and Owen ScottBaker, Madeline Kennedy, Freda Allen, Svb'il East, Owen Sorensen, Messrs Booth, Matthews, Brown., Willis, Withers, Elgar Allen, Cook, Cecil and Walter Middleton, D. Wilson, M. Saunders, and 0. Dawe. Concert. An enjoyable concert was held in the parish room by Miss Marian Woodhouse's Glee Club, in aid of the sick and needy fund. There was a large attendance of residents. The programme contained the following items: —Glee, "Sweet Spring Flowers"; song, "Dennis Darling," Miss Sparrow; song, Mr J. E. Read; glee, "Happy Birds "; song, "Love is a Merchant," Miss Willis; song, "Castles in the Air," Miss Brown; glee, "Bird at Sea"; song, "Fairings," Mrs Parr; song, "Jewel in the Lotus," Miss Woodhouse; song, Mr C. Burrows; glee, "New Life"; song, "I Will Await Thee," Miss Buxtcu; song, "Caller Herri n,'" Miss Sparrow; song, Mr Bead; glee, "The Bells"; song, "His Lullaby." Mrs Parr; song, "Melisande in tho'Wood," Miss Prince; song, Mr Burrow; and glee, "Perfect Day." School Social. Another social promoted by the School Committee was held in the Town Hall last Friday evening. The evening was devoted chiefly to dancing, and some novelties were included. The /musie was supplied by ime Kentucky Jazz Band. The hall was decorated by lady members of the committee. Amongst those present were Mesdames J. Lee, C. S. Booth, Klingenstein, Misses Sonntag, D. Aburn, Kennedy, E. Aburn, D. Churehfield, S. East, Daphne Aburn, F. Allen, J. Sorensen, I. Fluerty, Chapman, E. B. Scott-Baker, Messrs C. S. Booth, J. Browne, A. Withers, S. Nicholson, R. Barlow, M. Saunders, B. Burns, J. East, E. Allen, M. Barlow, A. McDowell, S. Middleton, G. Dawe, B. Hampton, L. Sutherland, M. Willis, L. Petersen, J. Wilson, E. Holcroft, D. Wilson, and A. Wilson. Life-Saving. The final committee meeting of the Life-Saving Club for the year was held on Monday evening. Mr Buttle prosided over a good attendance. Three new members were elected. Some years ago tho name of tifie elub was altered to the "Sumner Life-Saving and Surf Ba&iing Club," but this change has not been registered. Notice of motion has been given that the original name (i.e., "Royal Life-Saving Scoiety," Sumner branch), bo adhered to. A prominent physical culture expert now residing in the borough has volunteered to instruct a class for Swedish drill and land drill in life-saving. It was decided to accept tho .offer with thanks and to make arrangements for forming a class. Ladies' Rifle Club. The weekly shoot was held on Thursday evening, when some good scores were recorded. The brooch was won by Miss Sonntag. Last week's winner was Mrs Glaekin. Surprise Party. On Wednesday a very enjoyable evening was spent at the residence fo Mr and Mrs V. C. Cooper, Clifton, when a number of young people deuce of Mr and Mrs - F. C. Cooper, Tho evening was spent in games and dancing. Amongst those present were Misses E. Heslop, Hunt, E. Aburn, Mingon, K. Thomas, and E. Thomas, Messrs A. Smithson, N. Bates, L. Heslop, J. Wilson, G. Wallace, Partridge, Minson, Simpson, E. Allen, and D. Wilson.
