OBITUARY.

SIB ROBERT NOLAN. (fBKSS ASSOCTATIOH TSLBCUUV.) AUCKLAND, July 13. The death ia announced of Sir Robert Nolan. Born at Bathurst m I©S5, he came to New Zealand as a young boy with his parents, bis father being the late David Nolan, of the late firm of Hunter and Nolan, auctioneers, Auckland. Sir Robert was in business for many years at Hawera as senior partner in Nolan and Tonks. He went to England on a visit shortly before the outoreak of war, and as honorary secretary and officer in charge of the New Zealand Soldiers' Club in London from its inception until it was closed in 1919, ho rendered excellent service to members of the Expeditionary Force. Sir Robert also was a member of the committee of the Now Zealand War Contingent Association, London. He was created a Commander of the Order of the British .Empire in 1918. He returned to •NewZealand in 1920, and had since resided ; n Auckland. Sir Robert was a member of the Commission oi iinquiry lor the welfare of the blind. He was created a Knight of the British Empire last month. Sir Robert, who had been ailing two cjays, is survived by Lady Noian, one sou (Mr V. H. Nolan, of Cambridge), and one married and two single daughters. A New Plymouth telegram announces the death ot Mr Richard Cornwail, the well-known Jersey breeder and judt;c. Death resulted from heart trouole after a very brief illness. The death occurred at his residence, Invercargill, on Wednesday, of Mr James Sawcrs, an old and respected resident oi Southland. The late Mr Sawers was born in Scotland in 1854, and was for some timo engaged in farming there. As a young man he emigrated to New Zealand, and settled in Oamaru district, being for some years employed on the old Waireka station. In view of his capabilities as an expert cheese maker, he was appointed to a position in the Department of Agriculture. Subsequently, he left this position to become manager of the Wyndham Dairy Factory, and later of the Edendale Dairy Factory. Mr Sawers then re-entered the service of the Department as dairy instructor, which position he held up to the time of his retirement. He is survived by his wife, three sens, and two daughters.
