TRAPPING MEDIUMS.

TO THE *DITOa 07 "IH» FMSS." Sir, —Socrates told his friends that they could riot trap his spirit. May I tell "our friend M.S.'' the same thing? He has evidently read the repartee between Mr Massey and the doughty Dr. Gibbs, v.-hen the former toid the latter thai he knew his Bible from cover to cover, and interpreted it for himself. My L'O years of study of spiritualistic literature has given me a fair knowledge of the Bible. Such a passage as "Elijah was fed by the Kavens in the desert," turns out to be that Elijah sojourned for a time with a tribe of Arabs called "The Ravens." Some of the injunctions of Moses as to food, and clothing, and the trimming of beards, are still inexplicable. Tho. one about killing off mediums may have been inspired by jealousy; yet it may have been a wise one, because Moses, being a medium himself, became aware of the low class of spirit that was attracted to his tribe by the law of affinity. From cover to cover the Bible supports spiritualism, when read without tinted glasses. At a recent seance held in Wellington by Mrs Harris, a vague hint was given of ail impending disaster. If the sitters had been "of one accord," as the Apostles were in the Pentecostal Chamber, the spirits might have been more successful in getting their warning through. There is a natural fear of death, which spiritualism tends to philosophically eliminate. Ada Bessinnctt, the now celebrated materialising medium, went through a similar test to the one carried out by the "Scientific American." The testing parties published their hasty conclusion, which they afterwards retracted and apologised for. There are frauds among mediums, as among the rest of us, and we are glad when one of ours is caught; and we aro trying to repeal the antiquated Acts under which our genuine mediums are hampered in their good work. I would alter the word "satanic" to "good" in the sweeping condemnation of "M.5.," viz., "what is not fraud in spiritualism is Satanic." If "M.S." makes such a statement from personal experience, then ho was indeed "in a hole." I see, too, that he regards death as a misfortune or a punishment instead of merely as a door of exit. We can help one another to get out of our holes. I would not swop my "better 'olo" for his, on the face of his letter. —Yours, etc., PETER TROLOVE.
